Brett obtained his Bachelors in Social Work from Idaho State University in 1996 and then his Masters in 2006 from Walla Walla University. His career has taken him from a therapeutic aid in a school for at risk youth and adjudicated teens, working as a Felony Probation/Parole Officer, and then a Lecturer and Assistant Professor of Social Work at Idaho State.  He currently practices with his wife at An Open Mind Counseling and NeuroBalancing in Pocatello Idaho.

Author of two books currently available on Amazon Kindle, Brett speaks and writes about the issues he sees in the life and worlds of the professional and the client.  The Art and Joy of Parenting - With Time Out recently reached number one position in the category of Family; Emotional regulation in Amazon Kindle.  Discipline For a Change, A Guide to Positive Principled Parenting  is a book for both professionals and parents.  It teaches the difference between discipline and punishment and it gives easily to master and understand tools to stay in the positive discipline centered practice of parenting. 

An innovator in his field and a sought-out speaker and trainer, Brett oversaw the training of foster and adoptive parents for the Department of Health and Welfare before licensing them as certified caregivers. While a faculty member of the Idaho State University Social Work Department he taught and oversaw clinical skill development in graduating students as well as practicing professionals.

During this time, Brett also served as the Easy Idaho Branch Chair of the Idaho NASW
